Today is the last day of June and the last day of the financial year. Our end of year sale was an enormous success. Weve cleared the shelves out a little more and now we eagerly wait for new releases announced at CHA this month in the US. We have flagged all of our favourite brands and will be placing orders as soon as we can. In the meantime we still have a steady stream of new products continuously arriving each week. Every week without fail, we announce products in the WHATS NEW section. June was an enormous month for new products and the **NEW June category was busting at the seams. So we started a **New July category a little early this month. The newsletter is inspiration packed this week. We introduce our CELEBRATED SCRAPPER for July. We also have something in the newsletter this week from all BB Design Team membersCatherine, Kerrin, Lisa and Renata. Tomorrow we announce the new Design Team members via the portal page with a layout from each new member. We have 6 new DT members to announce so the portal page will full with stunning work. Five of the new members will be regular contributors to the newsletter, portal and gallery. The sixth new DT member will help us bring another exciting part to BB which we hope to announce very soon! Until next week, keep creative! Luise |

BB Quick Inspiration |

This month our CELEBRATED SCRAPPER is Jaimie Emmerton. Jaimie joined BB in August 2004. We asked Jaimie a few questions which you can read below: When did you begin scrapping and how were you introduced. I began scrapping about 4 years ago through a friend who was into CM. Although I never felt the CM style was going to be for me, I still consider it a good start. When and how did you find BB? I was introduced to the site by Sue (Sooz) in August 2004. What part of scrapbooking do you love the most? The finished product. I love looking at my finished layouts, the sense of achievement and enjoying the flood of memories that come with it. Share your favourite layout. Why is it your favourite layout? My favourite LO would have to be Smile. It was the first time I used a sketch as a guide and I love that everything came together so easily. For me it signaled a definite change in my own (evolving) style. Where do you find inspiration? I have a couple of favourite idea books that early on I used to death! I am also loving the Designing with Challenges set on BB. Lately I am finding that my photographs, (pencil and a sketch pad) are sometimes the only inspiration I need. How do you organise your albums? have one each for my children from birth to age 5, one each of their school years, one each for their years from 5 and up, three family ones (so far), a wedding one and one BOM
. You asked!! What would be your advice to a new Scrapbooker? Dont be overwhelmed or intimidated scrapping is for enjoyment and yourself! Find a good cutting system (try before you buy). Take some classes. Start with your current photos, dont get hung up on how many youve got to do enjoy the process. Remember dates and to journal. Never be afraid to try anything. What do you think will be the next trend in scrapbooking? I think its leaning to a more clean and simple style. More classic less clutter. What 3 scrap related items would you take on a desert island? Hmmm only three!! Chipboard alphas, Inks, cardstock/patterned paper. Brand of patterned paper featured predominantly on your layouts. I have a few favourite brands like Chatterbox, Basic Grey, Rhonna Farrer & 7 Gypsies but I generally use what's on hand and takes my fancy. What type of camera do you use? I have a Canon EOS 3000 SLR and Im counting down the days until I become the proud owner of the Canon D350. If you could have lunch with 5 people who would they be? Max Lucado, Nicole Kidman, Paul Coleman, Rex Hunt and the Super Nanny. |

Monthly Challenge: Today is the last day for you to upload your layouts in the JUNE CHALLENGE. The JULY CHALLENGE is Handwriting! Show your layouts where you have used your own handwriting, if you use your own writing all the time, then start experimenting with your handwriting and try different ways of writing your words. If you need some inspiration, Kerrin has created a great example to the right. Kerrin used her handwriting to create a word collage in her layout, documenting all of the things that make her happy. Kerrin played around with different font using her own handwriting. Kerrin used different sized letters and threw some doodling in for an artistic touch. To read more on the challenge, visit the Message Board under CHALLENGES. Closing date 31 July. |

Traditionally, Scrapbooking involves using photos, paper and paper products. But you cant beat the texture, colour and patterns that out of the box products bring to this fun craft! You can create layouts that stand out in a crowd by branching out and broadening your horizons! There are so many items you can incorporate onto your layouts that add texture and a funky edge. These include: Fabrics Buttons Metals frames, charms, letters, eyelets, and mesh Beads Glass tiles, little bottles, Dimensional Magic, mica chips Ribbons Sewing and embroidery Plastics transparency, watch faces, pockets and slide holders. Most items are safe for your scrapbooks, but if you are uncertain of anything, follow these general rules: Use copies of original photos or ensure you have the negatives. Create a buffer between the textured product and your photos by using an archival cardstock matt. Contact the manufacturer for further information. Using Fabrics Most fabrics are acid-free or ph-neutral. They may add a little bulk to your scrapbooks and are unlikely to scratch or change your photos. However there are some fabrics out there which may not be 100% safe so with that in mind, be selective and wash your fabric before using it on your layouts. To attach fabrics, use various adhesives including PVA glue, speciality glue sticks, and glue dots. You can also use various double-sided tape specific for fabric and ribbons. Sew it on with a sewing machine or by hand. Fabric is very versatile. Create a background by sticking a piece of fabric to your cardstock. You can also add layers, quilt the fabrics and overlay various patterns for a range of textures. Also try tearing strips of fabric to use as ties and borders. Metals There are many metal products available both in and outside of the Scrapbooking market. Making Memories and 7gypsies are well known at producing metal products specific for Scrapbooking, but try your local hardware or costume jewellery store for other options. Some popular metal items include: Frames Charms Alphabet letters Brads Mesh To attach these items, try the following: Metal glues Glue dots Try stitching, threading or tying with ribbon to your layouts Sturdy adhesives including double-sided tape Staples (which also become a decorative metal element) Metal adds texture, dimension and interest to any layout or project. Try distressing the metal elements or painting them to create a unique look. Whatever your choice in embellishment make sure you step out of the box and try something new. Add something to your layouts that you have never used before push yourself to try new things and new products. Let your creativity loose and most importantly have fun! Renata |
