Welcome to this weeks newsletter. I have to start this week with acknowledging the Queensland floods. Whether you are in QLD or other parts of Australia, it is hard to not be affected either physically or emotionally by what has unfolded over the past week. We have received many emails in the past few days asking if we are ok. Yes we definitely are ok! BB is physically located in Caboolture which is just outside of Brisbane. Other than a flooding of our patio and a yard that resembles a swamp, we are definitely ok and feeling very grateful.
We have discussed how we as a business can facilitate something with our customers to get donations to flood victims. The harsh reality is any money that flows through BB will always be subject to various fees and GST. In cases such as paying with PayPal, the fees are taken out before we see the money. Also with GST we are required by law to send 10% of everything off to the government. With that in mind, we want to ensure that 100% of any money donated is directed through the official channels of the flood appeal. We ask that if you do wish to contribute, that you do so directly through the QLD Flood Appeal. I have listed their details below which you can also access by this link HERE
DONATE ONLINE: Make a donation to the Premier’s Disaster relief appeal using a secure payment form.
DONATE BY INTERNET BANKING: The account details for donations are: Account Name: Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal BSB: 064 013 Account number: 1000 6800
DONATE BY MAIL: You can post a cheque donation – please do not send cash. Cheques should be made payable to: The Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal ABN: 69 689 161 916
Cheques should be posted to: Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal C/O Department of the Premier and Cabinet PO Box 15185 City East QLD 4002 Donate in person
DONATIONS IN PERSON: * Commonwealth Bank * NAB * Westpac * ANZ * BOQ * Suncorp * St.George Bank * Bank SA (Bank of South Australia) * Australian Central Credit Union * Savings & Loans Credit Union * Bank West * Australia Post * Coles supermarkets.
This appeal has deductible gift recipient (DGR) status and therefore all donations of $2 or more are tax deductible for you personally to claim on your next tax return, rather than funneling it through BB, who does not have DGR status.
We do want to THANK YOU for your contribution to the flood appeal so we are offering something to EVERYONE who contributes to the flood appeal. If you email your donation receipt to us at sales@bluebazaar.com.au we will provide you with a store credit to the value of your donation. Please understand we will have to limit this amount to $40.00 per person. We will require a full copy of the receipt and it should relate to donations made from the 14th January 2011 onwards.
I appreciate at this time that donation requests probably seem endless and for some people, spare cash is a struggle to find. Anything is appreciated, even if it is $2.00. Imagine the impact of everyone contributing $2.00! We will GLADLY give you a $2.00 store credit if that is what you can give — please do not think it is too small at all!
I also appreciate that it is hard to process the volume of money that is donated and how it actually helps people. At the time of writing this newsletter, the Flood Appeal is almost $55,000,000, which seems enormous. But when you are hearing numbers of 25,000 homes destroyed and many more individual people affected, dividing $55 million amongst just those numbers will see these funds disappear very quickly. Please don't take these as official numbers but rather an illustration to show that unfortunately $55 million most likely will be a drop in the ocean to what is truly needed when you consider people have lost everything. While there are people who may be covered by insurance, there are many people who are not insured through no fault of their own. Everyday people, disadvantaged people, people with disabilities and old aged pensioners who are already struggling. It is overwhelming to think of every individual story but I know every single dollar will help.
To all our QLD customers, colleagues and suppliers, you are in our thoughts constantly. If you do happen to read this newsletter and if you are also a member of Facebook, I encourage you to “like” the Queensland Police Service Facebook page which you can access HERE Their page is a constant flow of resourceful and factual information that has been invaluable over the past week and I’m sure will be over the coming months.
Anyway, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share all of the above information through BB to you as our customers. I do hope that you can understand we have carefully considered how we can contribute to this event and the above is the best way in which we can do that.
We do have a newsletter this week as we do have new stock to share with you!
