Gosh what can I say!  The newsletter is late, my keyboard has a dicky D and we have loaded almost 200 new products in one day! This is our first newsletter for the new month which means we fill the newsletter with extra inspiration from the Design Team and introduce our CELEBRATED SCRAPPER for August.

We are 4 days into August and the NEW products category is bursting already. To help you see what is new we have created 2 NEW August categories.  Hopefully this will help alleviate slow loading pages.

Until next week, keep creative!

BB Quick Inspiration

This month our CELEBRATED SCRAPPER is Cherie Theodosiou. Cherie joined BB in June 2004.

We asked Cherie a few questions which you can read below:

When did you begin scrapping and how were you introduced.

I began scrapping about 1.5 years ago after I flicked through a Scrapbooking Memories magazine my mum had. I had tried every other craft, so why not another one!

When and how did you find BB?

I joined Blue Bazaar in June 2004 after seeing the website address in a magazine advertisement.

What part of scrapbooking do you love the most?

Every part!  But putting a finishing page into it’s plastic sleeve in an album is always a good feeling.

Share your favourite layout. Why is it your favourite layout?

I have a few favourite layouts.  One is Memories 98—I love the photo, the colours and I’m a

sucker for anything Chrismassy.

What is your favourite Scrapbooking book?

Timeless Techniques by Jenni Bowlin. Every time I look at it, I seem to find something that

I didn’t notice before.

How do you organise your albums?

Not every well. I store my layouts in albums in no particular order.

The plan is to finish heaps of pages of favourite photos and then organise

them into albums for each one of my kids to keep...yes, I know that’s probably the last thing they will want when they are older—albums!

What would be your advice to a new Scrapbooker?

Just do it.  It’s the only way you will learn what you are comfortable with using and what you like and don’t like.  Make a few mistakes and you will soon learn what not to do.  Date everything and keep a diary for journaling notes.  That way you have a record of what happened on a particular day and you can refer to that if you are scrapping the photos at a later date. Most of all, have fun.  You are making keepsakes for yourself and your family and if they appreciate what you do that’s all that matters.

What do you think will be the next trend in scrapbooking?

Brighter colours, less embellishments and smaller pages.

What 3 scrap related items would you take on a desert island?

Patterned paper, sewing machine and chardonnay.

Brand of patterned paper featured predominantly on your layouts.

BasicGrey and KI Memories.

What type of camera do you use?

Making do with a Kodak Easyshare at the moment.

If you could have lunch with 5 people who would they be?

Robbie Williams, my husband Peter, Des Hasler, Renata Watt and George Clooney.

Monthly Challenge:

The AUGUST CHALLENGE is Artistic Avatar Monograms.  Yes what a mouthful  We thought this month we could have a little fun with our avatar’s on the message board by creating a unique piece of YOU.  The challenge is to get creative and create a monogram...as artistically as you can and upload it as your avatar on the message board.

If you need some inspiration, Lisa has created a great example to the right.  We hope to see lots of entries this month so the message board becomes a colourful display of artistic monograms.

To read more on the challenge, visit the Message Board under CHALLENGES.

Closing date 31 August.

The theme for this week’s portal is…

Travel

Don’t forget that the portal is updated every Friday with wonderful creations from the Blue Bazaar Design Team. If you don’t use the portal and would like to view the current creations, simply connect to www.bluebazaar.com.au.

As our Photography challenge this month focuses on Motion, I thought I would expand on capturing motion in photography by using a technique called Panning.

The traditional method of capturing action is to use a fast shutter speed to freeze the action.  On your camera, the sports or shutter priority mode will help you do this. In the photo to the right labelled A, I have used this method to slow the action down from a swing and freeze the subjects within the photo.

An alternative is to use blur to convey motion. Panning is a fun technique that uses this principle. By following the action of the subject and using a slow shutter speed, the photo captures the subject in focus against a blurred moving background. This technique is ideal for capturing activities like a flying fox or running race where the motion is predictable (and repetitive – to give you plenty of chances to capture it!). You should be positioned parallel to the action. Then, imagine yourself as the apex of a triangle and determine a comfortable shooting arc from that position (see figure1).

Photo A: 1/320, f11, ISO 400

Prefocus on the area, then set the camera to manual focus. Set your camera to continuous shooting mode (check your manual to see if you have this feature). Using shutter priority mode, set a slow shutter speed (eg. 1/30). Start photographing when the subject enters the shooting arc, following the action with a smooth motion. (see photo B. technical details: 1/30, f16, ISO 100)

Photo B: 1/30, f16, ISO 100

Compare Photo B with Photo A which used a faster shutter speed to freeze the action. The mood of the images is quite different even though the activity is the same.

NB. All of the examples in this article were hand-held, but a tripod can be used if you have issues with camera shake.

Make sure you read details of our current Photography challenge on the message board.  I would love see your photos in the gallery...maybe even using the panning technique.

CHARLEIGH.
