This month our CELEBRATED SCRAPPER is Judy Wilkenfeld. Judy joined BB in July 2005.

We asked Judy a few questions which you can read below:

When and how did you find BB?
Just over a year ago. I found BB through an internet search. I found the prices great and the site and members so lovely and honest. It seems to me that the size of the membership or participants is not so huge that it’s overwhelming as I have found with other sites. I like that when i need a product urgently BB always comes through! I love the fact that BB has an artistic bent to it which is definitely not appreciated to the same level on other sites.

What part of Scrapbooking do you love the most?
After I have completed an album for a client, I love the phone call after the recipient has received their albums. The call usually comes around midnight as do a plethora of text messages from all the participants. It’s the most rewarding moment for me as I get a full blown description of their amazingly emotional reaction about seeing their whole life documented in an album or two. Sometimes they video the reaction which is great for me to see. It feels so good to scrap for people and give them such joy and present them with such wonderful memories – both good and bad in such a beautiful and gentle way.

What is your favourite Scrapbooking book?
7gypsies in Paris because it is so visually pleasing and I really appreciate all the fine details that they have put into it. It is presented like a journal and I am forever finding new things to see in it. Also Full circle by Li’l Davis designs – so many great artists and so much to see.

Do you have a process that you go through each time you complete an album for clients?

First they must fill out a series of questionnaires that assist me to get to know the client for whom the album is being made. They must present photo’s according to themes.

Depending on their price range they will either deliver me the photo’s – anywhere between 400 -600 on disk already scanned or they just present the photo’s.

I then get my photographer to go to their house and start photographing things I feel the recipient is either passionate about or identifies them for who they are. It’s very collusional and fun! Sometimes I will take an object and use that only as a background and love when the recipient finally works out what it is. I can be very esoteric with layouts sometimes.

Usually my albums have family or friends participating by writing what it is they love about the recipient – so I interview them then do the page according to what they are trying to say. I like to choose colours and papers that reflect the friend or family member so that when the recipient sees the page, they almost immediately can identify that it is them from whom the page has been done for.

All photo’s are photo-shopped and then themed. Then the hard work begins. Sometimes research is involved whether here or abroad. It usually takes a month to do one album as they are typically 60-70 pages long. There’s a lot more to the process but I think I may be taking up too much space!

Share your favourite layout. Why is it your favourite layout?
I once created an album which sits on a wall and is really one massive layout. It is one of my favourites probably as it was so technically challenging. It has 3 layers of stitching. There were 12 pieces of 12x12 Bazzill stitched together - then on top of that I colour blocked and stitched more Bazzill, then all the photo’s were stitched. It measures about 5 ft tall. I also like that I made the centre photo of the boy about whom the layout was for in colour as opposed to black and white which drew attention to him and the centre of the layout.

Designing With Calendar Challenge:

The new challenges for November are now on the message board. Remember you do not have to own a Designing With Calendar to participate in the challenges as we have set alternative challenges for anyone to complete.

The November Alternatives are:

1) add some jewels for a feminine touch.

2) make your layout a different size such as 8x12.

3) creat something special with your scraps.

4) use some symbols, i.e brackets, arrows, stars etc.

To read more on the challenge, visit the Message Board under CHALLENGES/COMPETITIONS.

Closing date is 30 November.

The theme for this week’s portal is…

Design Team Scraps for You.

The portal is updated every Friday with unique creations from the Blue Bazaar Design Team focusing on a specific theme each week. To view the portal simply enter Blue Bazaar via the main page at www.bluebazaar.com.au.

How often do you scrapbook?
Everyday. If I have an album to do I work 18-20 hours a day especially in the final week.

What are your 3 favourite products you are using at the moment?
Since I have just completed a heritage album for an 80 year old I would have to say Anna Griffin and K&Co patterned paper – the new Addison range is great for a male albums.

I cannot do an album without Making Memories metals, 7 gypsies paper and their porcelains and metal tabs. Li’l Davis bookplates are excellant for journaling in, as are the BasicGrey extra large bookplates.

If you could have lunch with 5 people who would they be?
Maxine Hazebroek– my Aussie scrapping idol.

Teesha and Tracey Moore – their art and journals are amazing!

Kay Stanley from K&Co – for her insight in leading the scrapbooking market when there was no market.

Donna & Steve Smylie from 7gypsies – for their ingenious products and the sense of humour they put into their products.

Debbie Crouse and Carol Wingert – just because i love their art and stupendous layout.

KI Memories—Alpine and Joyful release and Grateful and Haunted kits.

Catslife Press—restock stamps.

For Keeps—Issue 48

Tomorrow is our first portal of the month where each Design Team member will  have a layout on the portal.

This month we feature our Miss November Celebrated Scrapper and gain a little insight into Scrapbooking for others as a business.

Our Poppy Ink kits for November are currently sitting in customs and we expect delivery either tomorrow or Monday. As part of our delivery we also have some add-on kits. These kits are not sold as a subscription but instead as one off kits available to anyone.  They will be placed on the site for purchasing as soon as we receive our delivery. Stocks are limited. If you do have an interest in purchasing the add-on kits in future months, let us know by email and that will assist us in bringing in enough to cover demand.

The hottest item selling in the BB store the past few weeks has been the Catslife Press stamps we have bought in. We are almost on hugging terms with the owner from Catslife. We have our 4th restock coming as well as NEW releases just made available yesterday.  There are some fantastic new stamps with a journaling theme. We should have them in stock late next week.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
